I've just got a regular shaker from GNC. Nothing too special. It has the thing in it to break up the clumps when you shake it. I think the main thing for me has been finding one that doesn't leak. I've probably went through half a dozen because they start leaking. I guess they didn't seal well at the top. So I guess one that lasts and seals tight is what I look for.

MET-RX mix boy, newer version, deeper 'lip'. Old one's lid used to burst off mid shake.. was always fun...

I use a Rubbermaid I bought at Pathmark. It works great, and does not leak. It does not have a clump buster, but with AtLarge products, you don't need one. I recommend it.

The nalgenes are great. I bought a few of them, and I prefill them and have them ready to snatch on my way out. One thing I wanted to mention is to avoid the nalgenes with the narrow opening at the top. Get the ones with the wider opening. They are much easier to get the protein powder into, and to clean. (Especially when you forget, and leave the thing with slimy protein shake residue in your gym bag for two days)....Not that I've done that or anything.

I use this shape and it works awesome:

Edit: Incidentally I think I bought mine at Sportcheck too, if I remember right..

I pour a little bit of protein in my mouth, then add water, and violently shake my head, works great.

not really, I use rubbermaid, and/or gejneric cheapies. I like a wide opening, and measurements on the side, thick plastic is always preferable.

I've only seen one kind of shaker... the free one that I received from bulknutrition is great. It's lasted me over a year, too, and never leaks.

I got a set of naglene-like bottles at Costco for like 5 bucks. They are really wide-mouthed, so it's difficult to drink anything while moving. Plus, there is no flip top--you have to unscrew the cap (which is held to the neck of the bottle so you don't lose it).

But they are easy to clean, and most importantly, they don't hold the smell of anything like my old GNC shakers. And, with the wide mouth, it's a cinch to add protein powder. I also make lemonade or iced tea in them--one scoop, shut and shake for nicely mixed, refreshing drink.

I use the GNC's now in the gym for my water so I can drink whilst I move around.

But four quality bottles for 5 bucks is worth it to me!

The Nalgene has an insert available so this isn't a problem. I'm not sure if they would fit your costco bottles, though.

I use a stainless steel shaker. It's got a main body, a top with an enclosed perforated portion, and a small cap that fits over the perf'ed portion. It's awesome and doesn't leak, though it gets really cold from the cold milk. I'd love a WBB logo on a shaker. :) It's for alcoholic beverages but works great for milk+Nitrean.

I use Nalgene too and I love them. In fact, I just bought another one from Sport Chek as well. You can buy them at most sports store though.

They`re basically indestructible, have measurements on the side, they come in tons of different sizes (although 1L is ideal for almost everything) and thanks to the loop at the top, they are easy to carry and attach to a gym bag.

I have tons of bodybuilding.com shakers. On some the lids don't screw on evenly. Although the ones that do work well enough.

I used to have a tupper ware/rubber maid goober which didn't leak for 4 years. Then one day at work the lid flew off and made a nice mess.

Uh...I either get mine from Hi-Health or GNC. They only have 20 oz. shakers, but that's fine for now. The shakers from GNC are easy to drink from and they seem like good quality. I like how tight the lids stay on with the shakers from Hi-Health. Spilling sucks.

I picked the most popular brands listed in a previous thread. The "ultimate shaker" which is sold by GNC is the same concept as most shakers you see being sold by supplement companies. If you have a better list, feel free to let me know and I'll alter the poll.

i use the blender bottle (www.blenderbottle.com)

it uses a little metal spring ball thing to mix up in a normal shaker bottle.. it works great and never leaks... gnc shakers are junk in my opinion.. they always leak and you cant put them in the dishwasher cus that little rubber seal shrinks up and then the **** leaks.. i have used dpsnutrition shakers which are about the same as gnc only no rubber seal.. they dont leak but i dont like how the opening for the mouth closes.. much like gnc where it like doesnt "click" on and give you that sense of security.

i'm so tempted to get some. but shipping to australia would cost a bomb :(

and i've changed my mind about GNC shakers. they're crappy. one leaked into my bag yesterday and soaked my school notes. another (brand new) leaked into my hands while i was holding it upside down. i'm never putting them in my bag again.

They look like the typical gravy shaker. They probably have a rubber ring inside the top, which means they will eventually dry, crack, and leak. Unless you lose it first. And the flip lid means you can't trust them in your gym bag as it will eventually catch on something and pop open. Overall, pure crap.

Sorry!

Flexin
03-24-2006, 10:06 AM
Actually there is no rubber ring, it uses some other method of no leak. Don't worry I'm not gonna trust in the dishwasher though. Since I never put these in a gym bag the cap thing would never bother me.

I don't see how its pure crap, but hey since you owned one you would know right!

The nalgene for me are a pain to clean.. I like the wide mouth workout type bottles.. well see how long they last. If they last 6months, thats good enough for me...

Does the nalgene have some sort of method of mixing the powder into your liquid? Can't seem to see it, i.e Mixboy - grid system.

No, it doesn't have one. And doesn't need one. I was skeptical at first, but my shakes are actually better without it.

No rubber ring is a bonus, but the flip lid is still a pain. The thing I like about the nalgene is that I can use it for shakes, quick rinse, then immediately use it as a water bottle.

Are you kidding? This is one of my top features. 200ml of hot water, piece of paper towel, shake the **** out of it, empty, rinse, and it's SPOTLESS.

I used to use something similar but the powder didn't mix well. Though that probably comes down to the certain powder itself, which i don't use anymore anyway.

I use nitrean and it works really well. The problem I had with the "clump buster" is that I use the shaker several times a day. After the first use, I would wash all the pieces (pain in the ass) and just shake it dry. If the "clump buster" wasn't perfectly dry by the time I had my next shake, the protein would stick to it and create little clumps. More of an annoyance to clean than anything else, but it's definitely a bonus now that it doesn't happen anymore.

I use mine 3-4 times a day, it can be a pain to clean. Especially the 'clump buster', er and if left a day or two, tends to smell, which is hard to shift.... and therefore have to buy new ones now and again...... You are wondering why i'm still using it? Seems to be the only thing supp shops around here sell.

I hear ya man. Once you get that milky smell into those things, it just doesn't come out.

Not the case with the Nalgene. I've actually left 1cm of milky protein goodness in the shaker for a couple of days to test things out. I made sure to keep it in a warm environment too.

200ml of hot water + wad of paper towel + shake the hell out of it = perfectly clean and no smell. You might have to use a dishrag to get the crusty milk out of the cover, but that's usually an extreme case.

I pour a little bit of protein in my mouth, then add water, and violently shake my head, works great.

the blender bottles are actuall pretty nice... they flip top lid is nothing like a gnc lid... they really click on... i have never had a problem with them leaking or opening easily..

as for using a few times a day... what i like to do is i mix my shakes with milk... instead of rinsing the shaker out and what not during the day i jsut pour my milk back in the shaker when i an finished drinking... then i put it back in the fridge... then the spring that is used to shake up is submerged in milk and wont get nasty... then i usually wash at the end of the day in the dishwasher..

i have about 5 blender bottles... and i still run out becuase i am nothing but lazy and dont wash them enough

The 32oz wide mouth. There's no mixer grid. If you're using a decent protein (nitrean!), it actually mixes better without one.

My regular sports bottle blends just as good as the bottles with the blades. It also doesn't leak like some of the shakers I tried, which is odd considering they featured rubber gaskets that the sports bottle lacks.

You know, my GNC shakers don't have a screen and I never have clumping issues. I use 6-star whey at the moment, and it's actually the only brand I've ever had in them. I used to use that crap Body Fortress, and it clumped horribly. I think it's all a matter of quality of product, more than anything.

I'd say thats true for the most part. Though i've tryed a number of different powders and found that the cheaper ones did tend to clump more often but there were few of the more exp ones did also clump slightly, enough to be noticeable. I do think the 'grid/clump buster' etc does make it smoother/easier to drink.

I personally have for a good while used gatorade 32 oz bottles from walmart there like 75 cents with gatorade, i use a funnel to get the powder in, but since i dont put water through the funnel it never needs to be cleaned. When I am done I just shake warm water to clean it out. Every two or three days ill shake it with soap if it retains a protein smell. If they start to smell I just chuck them.

I like what I hear about the nalgenes since i switched to gatorades after i noticed protein makes bottles smell but there expensive, can you get them anywhere for under 10? Sports authority has a knockoff for 10.
