Hey you guys.. this is unfair..
The competitors don't have a shot!!!!
And you'll probably shut down our accounts if we vote for someone else... LOL.. HAHAHA...

Ahh.. I vote for Nitrean!!!

BTW.. I just got my 1st bucket Thursday.. used it for 3 days.. and already I'm feeling stronger..

Anthony

lol, you can vote honestly, no one is going to get shutdown. ;)

I've been using Nitrean as my main source of protein powder since ALN started. Tastes great, mixes easily, and does the job ... why would I switch??

I'd vote for two. Nitrean and Muslce Milk.

I hated the way muscle milk mixes. Besides, I thought we were talking protein supplements not weight gainers or meal replacements.

ON makes some pretty solid products.

I've always been a fan of their natural whey.

I just bought I tub of their casein protein. That stuff is absolutely delicious just mixed in water.

I'd vote for two. Nitrean and Muslce Milk.

my thoughts exactly. nitrean for PWO shake, muscle milk before bed. cant beat muscle milks flavors either. chocolate mint chip, banana creme, and rocky road are by far my favorite flavors (i have tried about 9)

Most of the reviews that I have read on ON 100% were very good. It also comes out as value for money. Not expensive at all. I have been using it and am perfectly 'appy with it. :study:

ON 100% chocolate. Cheaper, better for PWO, mixes (much) better, and (to me at least) tastes (much) better than nitrean. If I use my nitrean now i mix a little ON 100% in it with a milk containing a little more fat to keep the slower digesting qualities of the casein.I've tried a few other brands but ON is #1 so far.

Edit: I've heard mixed reviews of the ON casein. I guess I should just try it for myself.

I've used gnc brand mega[U] wey most my life. I guess it gets the job done decently but I can only afford to take 1-2 scoops a day, so I can't really say.

I was usting CYTO Gainer by cytosport which seems to work really well.
What I liked about this is asside from 54g Protien it had 84G of carbs for hard gainers such as myself. However I dunno if it was the 3 g creatine or whatever else is in it but it seemed like it was shrinking my balls. Is this possible? It didnt hurt by maybe like a slight restrictive sensation. I discontinued for a week and my balls are normal again. Does ne body know a substance-phenomenom that could account for this possible occurence?

Nitro tech I loved even though it kinda hurt my heart and its really expensive. However, it makes me violent when i mix with alcohol so i stopped.

Anyone else heard of "Jay Robb's Whey Protein"? My dad was raving about it for a long time and it's expensive stuff so I got him to buy me two tubs of it.

Edit: Ya know I'm looking up the Jay Robb's Whey Protein and it actually doesn't look that expensive, good possibility my dad was talking out of his ass.

Edit #2: Actually I was looking at the wrong product, check out how much this stuff costs (granted it is 6lbs)

I don't know it's supposed to be all natural or some garbage like that. Anyway my dad was using it and liked it and offered to get me some. I didn't feel like declining his offer but then again I don't know much about different brands of protein.

Muscle Milk is the best, besides I got leaner with it than any other.

This surprises me somewhat, considering that muscle milk is known for it's high caloric content, 6g of sugar per serving, and a decent amount of saturated fat. I am going to purchase some to see the results, but since I am on a bulk right now I feel that it will complement my routine nicely.

Did you have the same diet/routine/cardio sessions as you did prior to taking muscle milk? What other proteins have you tried?

firemedic
02-15-2006, 02:45 PM
yah, I know it is weird. I did not belive it till I tried it. I have tried just about everything out there, gold whey, opt nutrition whey pro comp, gnc whey, optimums anabolic milk (not bad comp to MM). but it seems all the wheys upset my stomach and made me want to puke. I feel MM is the best out right now, but someone will change that soon I am sure.

My routine was the same 1hr cardio 3-5 days a week, and a body part a day giant set. My diet got better I felt, it seemed MM cured my cravings for fatty foods and sweets.

We really should clarify:

Best tasting
Best mixing
Most effective
Best overall

I think anyone who uses protein should STRONGLY consider Nitrean because it is as good as ANY product on the market in terms of taste and mixability (taste being subjective, but when you look at all of the reviews you can see it is among the best) and it is probably the MOST EFFECTIVE product on the market. There may be a few other blends which are as effective but they are MUCH MORE expensive than Nitrean.

What most people who use protein don't understand is that a whey-only product is INFERIOR to a blend such as Nitrean in terms of its effectiveness at getting protein to your muscles (where you want it). This is not conjecture but something proven in the lab by such gurus as Boirie et. al.

I use ON 100% Whey gold standard. The only thing I don't like about it is that is says on the container that it mixes with a spoon. Well, I can stir for as long as I want and the clumps will still be there. Some of you mix the protein with water! I tried that once and almost spit it back out. I always mix it with skim milk. It tastes just like chocolate milk except with less sugar and fat, and more protein.

I voted OTHER. My choice is definately TrueProtein.com Their protein mixes crystal clear in just a couple shakes of the cup and with the Black Star Labs flavoring it tastes unbelievable. Plus the price.......Whey protein Isolate cold filtered 6.89 a pound! How can you go wrong. PLUS they have the option for people who are in contests etc to make their own mix of stuff...with carbs fats and supplements blended right in.

All of the powders you guys have listed have one or more artificial sweeteners, which have been shown to cause a bunch of health problems. Some of them also contain sugar and other hidden ingredients. Hint: If you want it sweet and don't want added calories, look for stevia in the ingredients. It's a natural sweetener without all the bad health effects, and has no calories. The reason no one knows about it is because Nutrisweet bribed a whole bunch of people in the govmt to make it illegal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia

What about Don Lemmon's Complete Protein Powder? It has three ingredients: whey protein, soy protein, and rice protein.

All of the powders you guys have listed have one or more artificial sweetenersWhy are you saying ALL? The 100% egg white protein powder I take is just that...egg white protein powder. It has no added flavoring, sugars, additives, carbs, etc.. It has nothing in it but natural egg white protein powder. It has no flavor so I just add it to shakes and it tastes like whatever else is in there.

My bad scarz. I just saw the first few powders listed. I've never actually tried stevia. Is it really that bad? Built, if you could just give me the quick skinny on soy protein I would really appreciate it. I have heard something about phytoestrogens, which sounds bad.

Stevia tastes like licorice or something nasty. I could NOT get past it.

I tried.

I really tried.

Bleah.

The phytoestrogen thing is part of it. I've also read that soy may be contraindicated in people with thyroid disorders, and I've tottered along the edge of low thyroid in the past. It just makes me ... nervous.

I can try to dig something up if you need more, PM me. Or google "goitrogen" and "soy" (http://thyroid.about.com/cs/glossary/l/blgoitrogen.htm). Also flax.

That is bull**** and misinformation. Show me a real study which states there is a causal link to health problems from either sucralose or any other of the new breed of sweeteners (hint, there are NONE).

Chris

Sucrolose is new so we will need to wait to see information on it. You are welcome to be a guinea pig. People thought smoking had no negative health effects for many years before the truth was found. And the track record for artificial sweeteners is not good. You do know on the back of packets of artificial sweetener at restraurants it says "may cause cancer" right? LOL. Take a nutrition class and you'll learn about the health effects of aspartame, etc.

LOL. Take a nutrition class and you'll learn about the health effects of aspartame, etc.Ok? My major is nutrtition and we HAVE studied about aspartame and it is harmless, unless you have PKU. It should also not be taken in excessive amounts. But again, it is basically harmless. Also, none of the sites you listed look even remotely valid.

Well no, none of them are Harvard studies, lol. But I am still very skeptical. The goverment and the FDA have said many things are safe when they were later proven to be unsafe. The many perscription drugs such as Viox for example. Corruption is a big problem today and I don't want to wager my safety on polititians or corporations being honest.

sCaRz*Of*PaiN
03-09-2006, 09:21 PM
The "byproducts" in aspartame are non-toxic in regular doses. Aspartame is the most studied sweetener there is, so as long as you're not eating an exorbitant amount of it every day, there's no problems. But like I said before, if you have PKU do NOT eat aspartame. It can cause SERIOUS complications.

Nayr747

Built, I did some research on soy and found this: http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:nSuyN4HZnmwJ:www.veganhealth.org/articles/soymessina+goitrogen+soy&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=4

It says that there should not be problems in people with thyroid problems if you are getting enough iodine. It also says that soy protein isolate doesn't contain the goitrogen coumpound that could affect the thryroid. And that many other foods including cruciferous vegetable contain the compound.
