I know these kids that "claim" to have 2% bodyfat. Is that even possible? I didn't think it was and I thought you could die if you get too low of bodyfat. This one kid says he weighs 120 and has 2% bodyfat. Wouldn't he be really ripped with an eight pack and all these muscle striations? Which he's not... And he never works out, so I don't see how...

No. 2% is waaaaaay too low for the human body to function properly. I think 5%'s about as low as its physically possible to get; and of course, anything under 10 is suspect to +/- 3% error due to measuring processes.

So bodies of bodybuilders during a show, competition are not healthy and not functioning properly? Didn't Bruce Lee have like 4% bodyfat year round?

I think anything under 5% bodyfat for long periods of time is way unhealthy.2% bodyfat is damn near impossible

I am a huge Jerry Rice fan (ex. 49ers WR and current Raider WR), and I read an article about him having to go to the hospital because of his bodyfat level being too low. If I remember correctly it was about 3%. So now he is forced to throw in some cheat days to keep him where he wants to be. I would have posted a link to the article but this was many moons ago.

Sooo...unless they get in the dunk tank, tell them to stfu, because they're either using a crappy tanita, or calipers the wrong way.

I'm so pumped. Tomorrow morning with my gym class I get to have my bodyfat tested properly. The last thing I want it to be is like 10%. I'm hoping that it is more like 20% so that I will have better results when i cut if you know what I mean.
Darcy, as a wise man once said "you have smoked yourself ******ed".

1. Bodybuilders at a show don't necessarily have below 5% BF, and they put the weight back on almost immediately (ever see Mike Matarazzo off-season? He is fat.)
2. Bruce Lee died in his thirties... nough' said.
Nevertheless, there are plenty of people out there (mainly track people) that have extremely low BF%s.

Correct, it's not healthy at all and most don't still like that for very long, espically as dry they are at the day of the show due to low sodium and water levels.

From what I hear an average football players % is about 7-15% depending on position. This is info that I got off Dr. Squat....take it for what its worth

I read in SI some years back that Eddie George is 5%, that might explain why he is always injured...In the same article it said that Jerome Bettis was 14%!! I think Eric Moulds has one of the best conditioned body in the league...
