Yes its an antibotic, it a tetracycline-class antibotic. while I was looking it up on the web I found out it can be used to treat anthrax. So just in case, I get any mail i'll be safe :)

well it wa sjust a thought.

hey question...are they like little blue pills? I think one of my friends takes those as needed, and i've never seen her broken out, so i guess they work.

i've just got a fear of a antibiotics myself, so I try to stay away from them.

Yeah, I've used it. Did a great job on mine; nowhere near what Accutane did for me, though.

The Doc said to try minocycline for 6 weeks, and if I don't like it he will give me accutane.

Since antibiotics are supposed to help stop acne they r caused by bacteria, but how?

just what causes acne, why in puberty, whats the hormone link then and whats the role of bacteria in this.

3 things, oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria cause acne. I believe how it happens is oil clogs your pores full of dead skin cells and then bacteria grown in the clogged pore and poof you have a pimp.

I used to have really bad acne, I went to the dermatoligist for years. I tried Retin A, Tetracycline, and about three other things. The Tetracycline made me sick and I had to quit using it before I saw any change.

Accutane worked wonders in my early twenties, but should only be used as a last resort. Now in my thirties I take minocycline and probably will for life.

I take doxycycline sometimes when I have a bad breakout, or when a fresh piercing gets inflamed.

How long did it take for you to notice results?

B5 (pantothenic acid)-it's working miracles for me.

Try it, I believe it works by regulating oil gland secretions in the skin.

I'ce heard of the B5 thing also and have heard of individuals having varying degrees of success. The dosage is something like 5-9g per day

I have a study somewhere if I find it, I'll post it

I use between 2-3 g's a day. Some people have to take up to 5-10 to see a difference and then cut back for maintainence levels.

I think I got the best result from Retin A, it really dried out my skin which is what I needed. I will warn you in advance that the first few weeks on it will be very uncomfortable and you will probably see alot of peeling/flaking.
