Whenever I am regaining conciousness, I try to open up my eyes, but I cannot do it. Or I try to move my head, but I cannot do it. This does not happen all of the time but several times it has happened. Its like my brain is telling my body to do something, but I cannot do it. It only goes on for about a minute, but its scary.

sometimes when ive been out partying and got a bit :alcoholic
I wake up the next day, stand up, open my eyes, but not see anything at all the first 15 (long) seconds or so..... its scary.
I found out its just caused by the dehydration, i can prevent it by jus drinking a large amount of water b4 i hit the bed.
mmm of course drinking is a bad thing bb wise....tuttut to selves

it depends on what stage of sleep you are in when you wake up.....if you're in one of the deeper stages of sleep it's extremely difficult to move around as soon as the alarm goes off. REM sleep your body is a bit more active.
I have had this happen to me aswell. It happens when I am in deep sleep. When I take anything drowsy it will hit me very hard. They can knock me out for hours. Are you taking anything like this?

No. It has only hapened 3 times. I remember about a year ago I was taking a nap, and I tried to open my eyes, I could feel my eyes contracting, trying to open up, and nothing would happn. I tried to jerk around and nothing would happen. It only lasted about 30 seconds, but its scary.
I don't think you have to worry and now that you mention it, it used to happen to me when I had naps too. But yeah it is a little freaky when you can't come to even though you want to.

tuttut in REM sleep the body is in a state of paralysis to stop you acting out your dreams.

Garza,
It sounds like a fairly common experience called sleep paralysis. Here's more information than you probably really wanted:

Garza,
If it's only happened 3 times, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not likely to turn into anything weird like being abducted by aliens or being raped by an incubus.

That's happened to me before...usually when I'm trying to wake from a deep sleep...Taras and flake explained the reason for it, or at least that's the theory I'm familiar with.
It IS freaky though...

I have mild sleep deprivation, and this happens to me once in awhile. How much sleep anight do you usually get?

Taras is correct..
Garza I get this too and you know it is quite scary actually..
I told my Mum and she actually told me it was sleep paralysis as she used to get it too.. Nothing you can do but I know a mate of mine who gets it.. In fact he told me cause he was freaked out and I said "hey i get this too!!" lol...
I think its to do with when you wake up your brain awakes before your body so you can see and hear but cannot move.. kinda scary obviously..
I ALWAYS get it when I awake, never when I drift off but my mate got it when he drifter off.. So obviously his muscles went first before his brain did..
I would not worry about it I think it is actually very common and not out of the ordinary at all..
