You have to be more specific.
Does it hurt during certain movements.
How long has it been hurting.
What kind of pain, dull, shooting.
You get the idea.

It might be your internal oblique. If anything it is a strain.
Play it safe and it will be fine in a week.

Is it worse in the morning?

I definately would not go to the chiropractor. No offense to anyone, but I really don't think chiropractors help. (Hope I don't get an earful for that one.) Every time I've ever been to the chiropractor, the pain will go away for a few hours and then it feels 5 times worse after that. Your physician would definately be the person to see before seeing a chiropractor. But, depending on where you live, you probably have to go through your PCP before being referred to a chiropractor anyway. Just don't spend your money expecting the chiropractor to fix it.

If I were you I would rest it for a few days, maybe do some light streches. If it still hurts after that then i'd go see a docter.

Chiropractors aren't doctors...in most cases they are doing something to alleviate the pain but are doing nothing to actually solve the problem...for the money they charge just go to a nice boom boom parlour and you won't remember a pain in your back while you are there. ;)

Some things you can do to alleviate back pain:

bend at waist and move upperbody laterally in circular motion
lie face down on floor and do reverse situps
life face down on floor and have someone walk along your back (don't ask a fatass to do this)
lower backpain could also be symptoms of weak abdominals although it doesn't sound like this is the case
some side bends and twists
lastly just lie flat on your back and rest

Unless you have stomach problems or allergies-Try 200mg Ibuprofen tabs (Advil or any generic)2-3 every 4-6 hours. Ibuprofen is good on muscle aches/pain as in is an NSAID,anti-inflammitory is all you need to know. *I should mention, take with food or after eating to prevent any possible stomach discomfort* If your having pain with movement,Do Not do side bends or twists!
A Big hot steaming tub to soak in and a Quervo margarita does it for me!:D
Seriously-If the pain continues...don't look for answers here Bro,go see a M.D.

* slaps self in face to wake up from dream whereby he's actually defending chiropractors *

Chiropractors are Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.). They're not what are called allopathic physicians (M.D.'s). D.O.'s (Doctors of Osteopathy) are out there somewhere in between- not sure if they're considered allopathic or not.

There's "strict" and "loose" interpretations of what Chiropractic should treat. The strict type is the more traditional approach, treating musculoskeletal pain and "imbalances". The looser types get a little weird for me. My ex sister-in-law was of the looser variety. She believed in Foot-Zone Therapy. This meant for instance that if you'd been out drinking hard then your liver was injured. This would make a certain part of your foot sore when you pressed on it. All other parts of the body also had a corresponding zone on the foot. Give me a break. She also believed in treating certain conditions by shining a colored light on the person. I don't know if other "loose" chiros believe in all that stuff, too, or if it was just her weirdness. Believe me, she was all-around WEIRD.

IMHO the strict chiros have a useful position in life. Musculoskeletal pain in the lumbar area would be right up their alley. A little manipulation here, a little there, and you'd probably feel better. Now, if they told you that the pain was caused by one leg being longer than the other and you would need to have monthly adjustments for the rest of your life, go put a lift in one shoe. They're wanting to adjust your wallet, not your spine. :D

the "looser" variety are freakin nutcases.

and for some reason, they all want you to read Dianetics. why is that??

In my opinion stay away from working out your back for awhile. Especially deadlifts. I had some nagging back pain recently and I rested it for a good week. It feels a lot better.
